Power flushing

Power flushing is the single most effective was to clear sludge and debris from your heating system. The process involves adding a cleaning agent to the system, then using the machine to circulate and dump dirty water leaving your system clean and free from sludge.

How do I know if my system needs a Power Flush?

A dirty heating system is an unhealthy one. There are usually tell tale signs that the heating system water is dirty. The most obvious of these is if radiators get hot at the top but not at the bottom, this usually indicates a large build up of sludge in the radiator.

Regularly having to replace pumps and diverter valves is also a symptom, sludge damages heating components and can lead to costly repairs.

What causes system sludge

Ultimately sludge is caused by the lack of corrosion inhibitor in the heating system. Inhibitor essentially prevents the water in the heating system from causing the iron in the radiators and heat exchangers from corroding and generating rust also known as magnetite.

There most common reasons for lack of inhibitor are as follows:

  1. Leaks on the heating system.
  2. System drained down and no inhibitor re-added.
  3. Incorrectly piped airing cupboard causing the system to "vent over" in to the header tank

All of these are completely avoidable and we can advise and remedy any of the issues that cause the lack of inhibitor.
